Phew, the big day has come and gone, and now I can finally take a breath again. The wedding was amazing – lots of fun, laughter, dancing, and it was just so great to have everyone you care about most to come together for an evening. But, if you’ve ever planned a wedding before, then you know that a day like that can take lots of preparation and planning. For most brides, skincare is part of that preparation. When your skin’s appearance fluctuates with your stress levels, how much water you’ve been drinking lately, and your period’s cycle, amongst other factors, it can feel like a balancing act as the day draws near. Somehow, I managed to clear up any blemishes and keep my face that way just before the wedding using this skincare routine that contains only non-toxic products. Nothing harsh or harmful here!

And before we get into it, just for fun, let’s throw a couple of wedding photos in here…

Quick shoutout to our amazing wedding photographer, Nova Markina Photography, for capturing these moments for us!

I want to also give a shoutout to The Truth Beauty Company, a local clean beauty boutique here in the Kitchener-Waterloo area (they ship Canada-wide online too!). Most of these products have been purchased there, and Jennifer has always been so helpful in finding the perfect products for me! If you’re interested in dipping your toes into the world of green beauty and trying out some products for yourself, she has generously offered you all 15% off your purchase with the code TBELENA15. Enjoy!

Morning Skincare Routine

I love a good morning skincare routine. It’s something I didn’t do for the longest time, but have seen so many benefits from since I started! Not only do these steps help your skin, but they make your makeup sit better, and it’s great to start off your day with a bit of self-love. But as much as I love it, I still try to keep it as quick and simple as possible. My morning skincare routine has only 2 steps: washing my face (with just some warm water), and then applying a good moisturizer.

I used to use a moisturizer called Impruv (not green or clean, from what I know), which was recommended to me by a dermatologist when I developed eczema in high school (yeah, it wasn’t cute). While my eczema was mild, for the longest time I avoided switching to another moisturizer because I worried that it would come back. But I got a sample of the Pure + Simple Skin Drink at a show I went to, and wow, did my skin ever love it. It was less greasy, yet left my skin feeling so much more plump, soft and hydrated. I’ve been using it ever since, and I’m not planning on letting go of it anytime soon!

Evening Skincare Routine

My evening routine is a little more important, and thus, a little more lengthy. Though, it’s really only longer because I have to take off all my makeup.

I’ve tried several natural makeup removers and cleansers, and it’s taken a bit of trial and error to find what is best for my dry skin. Some I felt stripped my skin too much, while others didn’t quite leave me feeling clean afterwards. Finally, Jennifer from The Truth Beauty Company recommended I try the Olivier Make-Up Remover, and I love it! I was a bit skeptical because I had never used a cream makeup remover before, but I found it extremely effective for all kinds of makeup (skin and eye) and it doesn’t dry my skin out the way others have. I use it with my washable and reusable¬†organic cotton facial cloths instead of disposable pads, so that I produce a little less waste every day.

(Please ignore the dirty bottle – somehow, the ink permanently smudged in my suitcase!)

After the makeup is all gone, again, I keep it simple with just a facial oil to really help rehydrate my skin. I test out a new oil/serum every time I run out, and so far my two favourites have been the Wild Hill Botanicals Blackberry Face Serum (which I’ve reviewed before in this post here) and the Rejuvenating & Hydrating Face Serum from Province Apothecary.

Extra Care

I stand by my morning and evening skincare routines, but we all know that our skin can use some extra love and care sometimes, especially if leading up to a wedding! I’ve been using the Ancient Mud Mask from Cocoon Apothecary (fun fact: they’re also based out of Kitchener!) about every 1-2 weeks to do a deep clean of my skin and for some light exfoliating. I feel like it’s the perfect balance of effective and gentle, and for my skin, that’s exactly what I need.

Until next time!
